Arla Foods, a global dairy cooperative based in Denmark, has announced its participation in the GDT Pulse online auction platform launched by GDT and New Zealand’s Fonterra in 2022. This move allows Arla to offer skimmed milk powder (SMP) on off-weeks from the main GDT Events, enhancing frequency and flexibility in dairy trade.
Arla Foods, a leading global dairy cooperative headquartered in Denmark, has confirmed its entry into the GDT Pulse platform—a streamlined online auction system launched in 2022 by Global Dairy Trade (GDT) in partnership with Fonterra, New Zealand’s largest dairy exporter.
The decision allows Arla to offer its skimmed milk powder (SMP) products more frequently through GDT Pulse’s shorter and more regular auction cycles, typically lasting 10–20 minutes. Arla’s debut auction on the platform is scheduled for May 12, 2025.
Justin Matijasevich, interim CEO of GDT, welcomed Arla’s involvement, saying,
Arla’s participation expands opportunities for buyers and adds further momentum to the GDT Pulse pilot.”
Thomas Carstensen, senior vice president of Arla Foods, explained the strategic benefit of joining the platform. He noted,
This aligns with our evolving sales strategy by providing a flexible new way to connect with customers and offer our products more frequently,”
GDT Pulse was developed to offer an additional price discovery tool in between major GDT Events, especially for key commodities like SMP. The increased frequency of trading opportunities is expected to benefit global buyers seeking real-time pricing and supply assurance.
With Arla’s participation, GDT Pulse strengthens its role in the evolving digital marketplace for dairy, reinforcing transparency and efficiency across the global trade network.
