Milma, the brand under Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF) in India, is expanding its product line to include baby food and other value-added dairy items. This initiative follows the success of its ‘Repositioning Milma’ campaign, which introduced new packaging and unified pricing. The launch of a milk powder plant in Moorkanad, Malappuram, will enable the production of baby food and other dairy products.

The Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF), the apex dairy cooperative in Kerala, India, known for selling milk and dairy products under the Milma brand, is diversifying its product range. With increasing competition from private dairy brands and other cooperatives, Milma is venturing into value-added dairy products, including baby food.

KCMMF, which pays the highest milk price to farmers in Kerala, has been focusing on innovation through its ‘Repositioning Milma’ campaign launched in 2023. This initiative introduced new packaging, streamlined pricing across markets, and expanded product offerings.

New Milk Powder Plant and Baby Food Production

KCMMF Chairperson M.S. Mani announced that the newly commissioned milk powder plant in Moorkanad, Malappuram, will open opportunities for new product categories. The plant, with a 10-tonne daily capacity, can process up to 100,000 liters of milk per day. Baby food is expected to be one of the key products emerging from this facility, further strengthening Milma’s brand presence in Kerala and beyond.

Expanding Product Portfolio and Export Success

Milma has already introduced new value-added products such as dark chocolate and clarified butter (ghee). Notably, Milma’s ghee, produced at the Pathanamthitta plant, has received export approval for markets including the U.S., U.K., Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Mauritius, Singapore, and Malaysia.

Kerala has around 3,300 primary milk cooperatives and approximately 1.2 million dairy farmers. Milma procures about 1.15 million liters of milk daily while selling around 1.65 million liters across its network.

Ice Cream Relaunch with Focus on Popular Flavors

Milma has also relaunched its ice cream brand, implementing a unified quality system and modern packaging. The company is focusing on five key flavors—vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, mango, and butterscotch—to meet consumer demand. However, the distribution network remains a challenge due to limited refrigeration facilities, and regional unions are working on a solution.

With its continued commitment to innovation and farmer support, Milma is poised to strengthen its market position while expanding its product portfolio in Kerala and globally.
