Fonterra’s $75 million expansion at the Studholme factory is on track to meet its timeline and budget, bolstering the company’s global dairy protein production capacity.
Fonterra, New Zealand’s leading dairy cooperative, is progressing well with its $75 million expansion project at the Studholme factory near Waimate, New Zealand. The dairy giant, which is known for producing a wide range of dairy products, is focused on ramping up its production of high-value proteins to meet increasing global demand. The expansion is proceeding on schedule, with the construction of key infrastructure, including foundational walls, already completed.
According to Alan Maitland, the Studholme site manager, the construction team is on track, and the first product line is expected to launch in 2026. This ambitious expansion not only strengthens Fonterra’s capacity to produce high-protein dairy products but also supports the creation of six new jobs at the site, contributing to the local economy. Local leaders, such as Waimate District Mayor Craig Rowley and Venture Timaru CEO Nigel Davenport, have praised the project for its positive economic impact in the region.
Fonterra’s President of Global Markets Ingredients, Richard Allen, pointed out that global demand for high-protein dairy products is rising steadily, with an annual growth rate of approximately 7%. The improvements at Studholme are expected to increase Fonterra’s ability to serve existing customers while attracting new business, positioning the company to remain a key player in the competitive dairy market.
