Greece-based dairy exporter Omiros announced its acquisition of Cypriot dairy company A. Hadjipieris Ltd. The deal, made through Omiros Dairies Cyprus, marks Omiros’ first international expansion and a major investment in halloumi production. With plans to invest €30 million in Cyprus over five years, Omiros aims to strengthen its position in the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) cheese market.
In a major move to expand its global dairy operations, Greek dairy leader Omiros has acquired Cypriot dairy company A. Hadjipieris Ltd through its subsidiary Omiros Dairies Cyprus. This acquisition marks Omiros’ first production venture outside of Greece and strengthens its foothold in the international market for Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) cheeses, particularly halloumi.
Founded in Trikala, Greece, Omiros is a third-generation, family-owned company and one of the country’s most export-driven dairy producers. Known for traditional Greek and Cypriot PDO cheeses made with fresh milk and modern technology, Omiros currently exports to over 20 countries. The acquisition of Hadjipieris Ltd brings a third production facility under its control and deepens its specialization in halloumi and traditional sheep’s yoghurt.
The first phase of investment, totaling €5 million, will focus on modernizing the Cypriot facilities to increase annual PDO halloumi production to 5,500 tonnes. Under the direction of dairy executive Ioannis Billis, Omiros also plans to build a new factory in Cyprus with a projected annual capacity of 12,000 tonnes within the next three years.
Long-term, Omiros has committed to investing €30 million in Cyprus over the next five years, boosting employment and supporting the local economy. The investment plan includes facility upgrades, innovation in traditional dairy practices, and expansion of production to meet growing international demand.
Through subsidiaries like Agrolact and Omiros Dairies Cyprus, Omiros aims to preserve the authenticity of Cypriot halloumi while pushing forward with high-efficiency, export-ready dairy manufacturing.
This strategic acquisition aligns with Omiros’ broader growth plan and reflects its commitment to scaling sustainable, quality cheese production rooted in Mediterranean tradition.
