BL Agro, one of India’s leading FMCG companies, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art cattle breeding and dairy centre in Bareilly with an initial investment of Rs 1,000 crore. The project, named Satat Kamdhenu, is operated by BL Agro’s subsidiary, BL Kamdhenu, and focuses on circular economy practices in the dairy sector. The centre was officially inaugurated by Union Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan.

The newly established BL Kamdhenu Farms will initially house 5,000 indigenous cows, with expansion plans to reach 10,000 cows as the project scales up. BL Agro Managing Director Ashish Khandelwal stated that while the first phase requires Rs 1,000 crore, the complete project is expected to cost Rs 3,000 crore once fully developed.

The centre incorporates cutting-edge breeding technologies, including in-vitro fertilisation (IVF), along with feed production and bio-methanation for compressed biogas (CBG) production. These initiatives align with BL Agro’s goal of establishing a self-sustaining circular economy model in the dairy sector.

In addition, BL Agro has introduced a new subsidiary, Leads Agri Genetics, which will work on animal genetics and plant breeding, focusing on developing low-methane-emission cattle breeds. The company plans to sell high-yielding cows to local farmers, provide quality feed, and purchase milk from them, creating a holistic ecosystem that benefits farmers and enhances dairy productivity.

According to BL Agro CEO Navneet Ravikar, the project will initially benefit 5,000 farmers in the next 2-3 years, with an eventual impact on 100,000 to 200,000 farmers as it scales. The company also plans to source farm waste for its compressed biogas plant, further strengthening its sustainability efforts.

With this initiative, BL Agro aims to revolutionize dairy farming in India, fostering technological advancements while promoting economic opportunities for local farmers.
