Shakti Milk and Milk Products in Telangana faces serious violations after an inspection reveals unsanitary conditions, pest contamination, and product spoilage.

During a state-level inspection on February 1, 2025, significant violations were found at Shakti Milk and Milk Products in Raghunathpally Mandal, Jangaon district. The inspection, conducted by the Telangana State-level Task Force team under the supervision of the Commissioner of Food Safety, revealed alarming lapses in hygiene and safety protocols at the facility.

Shakti Milk and Milk Products, a local dairy processing plant, is involved in the production and distribution of milk and dairy items like curd and ghee. The plant, however, has come under scrutiny after several critical issues were uncovered. Among the violations, inspectors found pests, including mosquitoes and houseflies, in stored ghee, and even a dead lizard near food items. Structural deficiencies were noted, with a patchy roof and floor in the cold storage room, along with spider webs on the ceiling.

Further inspection revealed that food handlers were not following proper sanitary measures, and there were no records for pest control or water analysis reports. Equipment at the facility was unclean and rusted, and raw food items were stored in disorganized conditions. Additionally, labeling errors were found on packaged products, and 720 kg of curd was discarded due to contamination, fungal infestation, and spoilage. A further 1,700 kg of curd was seized because of labeling violations and concerns over substandard quality.

In response to these findings, samples of the products have been sent for laboratory analysis, and further legal action will be pursued under the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006, and the FSS Rules and Regulations, 2011. A detailed post about the inspection was shared on the official handle of the Commissioner of Food Safety, with public concern echoing in the comments section. Many users raised concerns about the lack of regular inspections in older areas and called for stronger penalties and action against the facility.

This inspection highlights growing concerns about food safety standards and the need for stricter regulations to protect consumers from unsafe food practices.
