An inspection at Shakti Milk and Milk Products in Telangana exposed significant sanitary violations, including pests in ghee and contamination, leading to product seizures.
A recent inspection at Shakti Milk and Milk Products in Raghunathpally Mandal, Jangaon district, Telangana, has revealed serious sanitary violations. The company, a prominent dairy producer in the region, was found to be in breach of multiple health and safety regulations, leading to product seizures and public outcry.
On February 1, 2025, a state-level task force inspection, led by the Telangana Food Safety Commissioner, uncovered alarming issues within the facility. Among the violations discovered were mosquitoes and houseflies found in stored ghee, as well as the presence of a dead lizard near food items. Inspectors also reported structural problems, including patchy roofing in cold storage areas and unsanitary conditions such as spider webs on the ceiling.
In addition to these findings, the dairy plant was cited for lacking proper pest control records and water analysis reports. Equipment was found to be unclean and rusted, and raw materials and packaging were stored in a disorganized manner. The inspection also revealed the absence of proper labeling, which resulted in the seizure of 1,700 kg of curd, suspected of being substandard. Another 720 kg of curd was discarded due to contamination and spoilage.
Public reaction has been swift, with many citizens taking to social media to demand severe actions, including permanent closure of the plant or the revocation of its operating license. There has been a strong call for more stringent enforcement from the government to ensure food safety and prevent further health risks to consumers.
The inspection has raised concerns about the safety standards in Telangana’s dairy industry, prompting calls for urgent reforms to protect public health.
