Punjab, Pakistan, is launching a modern dairy farming system in collaboration with Italy to enhance buffalo breeding, milk production, and packaging.

The Punjab government in Pakistan is set to launch a modern dairy farming initiative in collaboration with an Italian dairy investment delegation. This initiative aims to enhance buffalo breeding, boost milk production, and improve packaging to meet international standards.

On February 25, 2025, Punjab’s Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb and Livestock Minister Ashiq Hussain held discussions with the Italian delegation to finalize the project details. A pilot project involving 1,000 buffaloes will be implemented in Pakpattan, Muzaffargarh, and Jhang, introducing state-of-the-art dairy farming techniques and advanced cooling and preservation machinery.

The Punjab government is also working on a comprehensive dairy policy, which is expected to modernize the sector significantly. Minister Maryam Aurangzeb emphasized that this initiative, following the success of Punjab’s olive sector, will contribute to the region’s agricultural transformation. The project aims to benefit small farmers and women, especially in flood-affected areas, by improving dairy productivity and economic opportunities.

So far, 15,000 livestock cards have been distributed, along with an 80-billion-rupee subsidy, to strengthen the agricultural sector. The collaboration with Italy, known for its expertise in dairy and agriculture, reflects Punjab’s commitment to global competitiveness in dairy production.
