Odisha Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has approved the Mukhyamantri Kamdhenu Yojana, a USD 168 million (₹1,400 crore) initiative to boost dairy farming, alongside judicial reforms and the extension of OPDS.
The Odisha Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has approved seven key proposals aimed at bolstering the state’s agricultural and judicial sectors. Among these is the Mukhyamantri Kamdhenu Yojana, a comprehensive initiative designed to enhance dairy development across the state.
Under this new scheme, the government plans to invest over USD 168 million (₹1,400 crore) over the next five years to incentivize the rearing of cows and buffaloes, thereby increasing milk production in Odisha. The initiative includes financial assistance to dairy farmers, support for fodder cultivation, and the introduction of high-yield cattle breeds. By providing these incentives, the government aims to improve the livelihoods of rural farmers and meet the growing demand for dairy products.
The scheme also focuses on strengthening the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED). By enhancing OMFED’s capabilities, the government intends to ensure efficient milk collection, processing, and distribution systems. This move is expected to create a more robust market for dairy farmers, offering them fair pricing and reducing their reliance on middlemen.
In addition to the Mukhyamantri Kamdhenu Yojana, the Cabinet approved amendments to the Odisha Public Distribution System (OPDS) Control Order, 2016. The amendment extends the process of replacing private dealers with institutional dealers until March 31, 2026, aiming to increase transparency and efficiency in the distribution of essential commodities.
Further, the Cabinet has amended the Odisha Superior Judicial Service and Odisha Judicial Service Rules, 2007, to strengthen the legal framework and administrative capabilities of judicial officers. The amendments are expected to enhance court management and expedite the judicial process.
Minister of Works, Law, and Excise, Prithviraj Harichandan, along with Minister of Panchayati Raj, Drinking Water, and Rural Development, Rabi Narayan Naik, briefed the press about these decisions. They emphasized that these initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to socio-economic development and the welfare of its citizens.
These developments signal a significant push by the Odisha government to modernize its dairy industry and improve public services. The Mukhyamantri Kamdhenu Yojana, in particular, is anticipated to have a profound impact on the rural economy by empowering dairy farmers and ensuring sustainable growth in the sector.
