Damián Fernández has been appointed as the new director, replacing Júlio Diniz, who will assume leadership at Nestlé’s factory in Avanca, Portugal.
Fernández, originally from Switzerland but raised in Galicia, holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Santiago de Compostela. With almost two decades of experience at Nestlé, he has served in various capacities, including Sales and Infant Nutrition and as a Production Manager at the Pontecesures facility. His new role will focus on increasing factory efficiency, boosting competitiveness through digital transformation, and expanding export operations.
Nestlé’s Pontecesures plant, established in 1939, plays a critical role in the company’s operations. The factory specializes in producing condensed milk, including the renowned LA LECHERA brand, and exports products globally. Since 2012, it has been the sole Nestlé facility in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa dedicated to condensed milk production, employing over 200 workers.
Fernández’s appointment comes at a time when Nestlé is enhancing its production capabilities and streamlining logistics. His leadership is expected to reinforce the plant’s contribution to the company’s global supply chain.
