Germany’s DLG (German Agricultural Society) will host the Inhouse Farming – Feed & Food Convention 2025 from 30 September to 1 October 2025 in Hamburg, focusing on innovative, climate-resilient food systems. Experts like Simone Poppe from NewFood Consulting GmbH and Prof. Tilo Hühn of ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences are urging farmers to explore alternative protein production, such as insect farming, algae, and vertical agriculture. The convention aims to empower first movers to lead in the sustainable food value chain of tomorrow.
On 30 September and 1 October 2025, the German Agricultural Society (DLG) will hold the inaugural Inhouse Farming – Feed & Food Convention 2025 at the Congress Center Hamburg, focusing on the transformation of global food systems through innovation. DLG is a nonprofit organization promoting technical progress in agriculture, agribusiness, and food. The event will feature expert insights into sustainable farming models, including vertical farming, aquaculture, algae cultivation, and insect breeding.
Industry experts such as Simone Poppe, Managing Director of NewFood Consulting GmbH, and Prof. Tilo Hühn of the ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences are set to share insights on adapting to climate change, meeting consumer demand for regional, sustainable food, and creating future-proof business models. As members of the DLG Committee for New Feed & Food, both stress the importance of cautious, step-by-step investments in alternative proteins and the potential of technologies like bioreactors in small-scale regional farming.
“Farming as we know it won’t be fully replaced, but its transformation is inevitable,” said Poppe. She encourages farmers to evaluate their soil health and existing infrastructure before moving into new segments like algae or insect fattening. Prof. Hühn emphasized that retail strategies are aligning with flexitarian values, and regional sourcing will increasingly influence consumer choices.
The convention’s theme—“Today’s first movers are tomorrow’s market leaders”—underscores the urgency for agricultural entrepreneurs to innovate. With global population growth and biodiversity threats intensifying, the pressure to reimagine value chains is mounting.
This two-day event will combine technical sessions, interactive formats, and a theme-specific exhibition, aimed at equipping participants with practical knowledge to reshape agricultural and food production systems sustainably.
