Danone partners with shipping giant Maersk to utilize ECO Delivery Ocean service, cutting supply chain emissions by 40% through low-GHG fuels. This aligns with Danone’s ambitious sustainability goals, including a commitment to net-zero emissions by 2050.
French dairy powerhouse Danone has announced a strategic partnership with global shipping leader Maersk to reduce carbon emissions in its supply chain through the ECO Delivery Ocean service. This sustainable shipping solution employs low-GHG fuels, including biodiesel and bio-methanol from waste feedstocks, cutting emissions by up to 40% compared to traditional fossil fuels.
Danone’s Global Chief Procurement Officer, Jean-Yves Krummenacher, commented, “Our collaboration with Maersk through Danone’s Partner for Growth program aligns with our decarbonization strategy, emphasizing alternative fuels and multi-modal transport options. Using Maersk’s product to lower CO2 emissions in sea freight is a vital step in our sustainability journey.”
The partnership goes beyond sea freight, incorporating inland logistics solutions and enhanced operations through control towers. With a commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, Danone has also set short-term goals to reduce carbon intensity by 50% by 2030 and begin absolute emissions reductions by 2025.
This collaboration comes on the heels of Danone’s recent Q3 report, which saw a 4.2% like-for-like sales increase, reaching €6.826 billion ($7.36 billion), with strong performance in North America, China, North Asia, and Oceania. The company anticipates full-year sales growth of 3% to 5% as it continues to integrate sustainability into its business strategy.
This partnership with Maersk is a significant milestone in Danone’s mission to prioritize environmental responsibility while meeting growing consumer demands for sustainable practices across global markets.
