Deere & Company and DeLaval have partnered to launch the Milk Sustainability Center (MSC), a cloud-based platform designed to help dairy farmers improve nutrient efficiency and sustainability. Initially available in the U.S., Netherlands, and Germany, the tool integrates crop and livestock data to reduce waste, lower emissions, and boost profitability. A broader release is planned for 2024, offering farmers comprehensive insights for more sustainable operations.
Deere & Company, Illinois, USA, has partnered with Swedish dairy technology leader DeLaval to launch the Milk Sustainability Center (MSC). This cloud-based platform aims to enhance sustainability and nutrient efficiency for dairy farmers by integrating data from crop and animal operations. The tool will initially be available in the United States, Netherlands, and Germany, with plans to expand to more European countries.
The MSC helps farmers track nutrient use efficiency (NUE) by comparing milk production with the use of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e). It identifies areas of nutrient loss and offers recommendations to reduce waste and lower environmental impact. By benchmarking performance against other farms, it provides insights into operational efficiency, helping farmers improve both sustainability and profitability.
According to Deere, dairy farming involves some of the most complex agricultural systems, often requiring farmers to manage multiple disconnected software solutions. The MSC streamlines operations by pulling data automatically from John Deere’s Operations Center and DeLaval Plus, minimizing manual input and improving data quality. The platform will function independently of specific machinery brands, ensuring that it can be adopted widely.
The MSC is designed to support collaboration between farmers, advisors, consultants, and other stakeholders by providing a shared data ecosystem. It will allow users to monitor entire farm systems, from fields and herds to employees and machinery, optimizing the use of resources across operations.
Deere and DeLaval first announced this partnership in September 2023, aiming to address growing environmental concerns within the dairy industry. The platform will initially be free to users, with a premium version featuring advanced capabilities scheduled for a later release.
The MSC was officially launched at AGRITECHNICA in Hanover, Germany, from November 12 to 18, showcasing its features and benefits to farmers and industry experts.
