In a significant move to support dairy farmers, the Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (Milma) has announced the allocation of ₹74.11 crore under the Farmer Welfare Fund Scheme. This financial aid is aimed at enhancing cattle nutrition and milk production in the Malabar region of Kerala.
The initiative, spearheaded by Milma chairman K.S. Mani, focuses on offering subsidies for green fodder cultivation and cattle feed procurement during the fiscal year 2023–24. The Malabar region, which constitutes a vital part of Kerala’s dairy economy, is expected to benefit significantly from this assistance.
Milma’s support addresses critical challenges such as rising input costs, fluctuating feed prices, and the impact of seasonal variations like the monsoon. By improving cattle nutrition, the initiative aims to boost milk yield and ensure steady income for farmers, thereby reinforcing the sustainability of the region’s dairy industry.
“The aim is to empower our farmers and reduce their financial burden while ensuring consistent milk procurement,” said Mani. The federation’s financial package aligns with broader efforts to stabilize the dairy value chain and minimize distress among producers in northern Kerala.
This latest move by Milma showcases its commitment to long-term resilience in Kerala’s dairy sector, providing both immediate relief and strategic support for sustainable growth.
