Tesco Ireland is investing approximately $220 million in multi-year contracts with Irish suppliers, focusing on Cork-based dairy producers, to improve local sourcing and product availability.
Tesco Ireland, a leading grocery retailer and one of the largest buyers of Irish food, has announced a significant investment of nearly $220 million in the renewal and expansion of multi-year partnerships with Irish suppliers. This investment aims to bolster the agribusiness sector across the nation, reinforcing Tesco’s commitment to sourcing high-quality local products.
As part of this initiative, Cork-based suppliers Bandon Vale, Irish Yogurts, and Silver Pail have secured contracts to provide cheese, yogurt, and ice cream, respectively, to all 177 Tesco stores throughout Ireland. Additionally, Clóna Dairies will supply Tesco’s own-label milk to all six Tesco locations in County Cork.
Joe Manning, Commercial Director at Tesco Ireland, emphasized the importance of these partnerships, stating, “We are giving multi-year certainty to our partners, so they can further develop and grow with confidence, having already enjoyed relationships with Tesco over many years.” He added that Tesco is committed to offering outstanding quality, choice, and availability of fresh and packaged products.
Tesco is renowned for its significant contributions to the Irish food industry, purchasing $1.7 billion worth of Irish food and drink annually. This makes Tesco the single largest retail buyer of Irish food and drink in the world, a fact verified by Indecon Economic Consultants.
The renewal of these contracts not only supports local dairy producers but also aligns with Tesco’s mission to strengthen its supply chain and provide customers with a wide range of high-quality products.
