The product, made from 100% New Zealand dairy, was unveiled at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai. This move aims to capitalize on China’s growing demand for dairy, driven by urbanization and a rising middle class.
Fonterra, a global dairy leader from New Zealand, has expanded its foodservice portfolio in China with the launch of its new product, Anchor Easy Bakery Cream, a specially developed mid-tier UHT cream aimed at bakeries. This launch is part of Fonterra’s continued efforts to enhance its presence in the growing foodservice sector in China.
The product was unveiled at the prestigious China International Import Expo (CIIE), which took place in Shanghai from November 5-10, 2024. Fonterra’s new UHT cream is made from 100% New Zealand dairy milk and targets the mid-tier UHT cream market, which is rapidly expanding in China. The demand for dairy products in the country is being driven by factors such as urbanization, a growing middle class, and increasing awareness of the nutritional benefits of dairy.
Fonterra’s Greater China CEO, Teh-han Chow, expressed confidence in the new offering’s potential: “Our strong foodservice presence in China allows us to tap into new markets with products like this, helping to sustain our leadership and extend our reach to new cities. CIIE is an excellent venue to showcase our high-quality dairy offerings and reinforce our focus on sustainability, nutritional health, and innovation tailored to local needs.”
Fonterra has established six application centers across China, collaborating with local technical experts and customers to innovate new dairy applications. The company also highlighted its commitment to sustainability at the event by showcasing its Carbon Footprinter tool, which helps customers assess the carbon footprint of their products.
Fonterra’s expansion into China’s foodservice sector underscores the company’s strategic focus on high-value dairy channels such as UHT cream, cream cheese, and mozzarella. By tapping into China’s growing dairy demand, Fonterra continues to position itself as a leader in global dairy innovation.
