Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative has partnered with the Dairy Business Association and Minnesota Milk Producers Association to create the Voice of Milk, a coalition aimed at advocating for dairy farmers’ interests in Midwest policy. This collaboration will enhance representation and address key issues affecting the dairy industry.

Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative, a prominent dairy cooperative based in the United States, has teamed up with the Dairy Business Association and the Minnesota Milk Producers Association to launch a new advocacy group called the “Voice of Milk.” This initiative aims to strengthen the representation of dairy farmers across the Midwest in both state and federal policy discussions.

Founded in 2013, Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative represents dairy farmers in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa, advocating for their interests while promoting sustainable farming practices. The Dairy Business Association, established in 2003, represents the interests of dairy farmers in Wisconsin, while the Minnesota Milk Producers Association, founded in 2000, focuses on dairy producers in Minnesota. Together, these organizations bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the new coalition.

Tim Trotter, CEO of the Dairy Business Association, clarified that this collaboration is neither a merger nor an acquisition but an alignment of strengths that will enhance the influence of member farmers.

“We believe that by working together, we can amplify our voice and make a more significant impact on policies affecting the dairy industry,” Trotter stated. “This partnership allows us to consolidate our resources and expertise to better serve the needs of our dairy farmers.”

Lucas Sjostrom, Executive Director of Minnesota Milk, emphasized the importance of this unified effort in advocating for “sensible, scientifically sound, and sustainable policies and regulations at the local, state, and federal levels.” He added that the coalition will address pressing issues such as climate change, animal welfare, and market access, aiming to ensure that the dairy sector remains competitive and sustainable.

The organization is making its official debut at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin, which runs through Friday. The expo serves as a vital platform for dairy industry stakeholders, featuring exhibitions, discussions, and networking opportunities. The Voice of Milk plans to engage attendees through presentations and discussions, highlighting its goals and initiatives.

By forming the Voice of Milk, Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative and its partners are poised to become a significant force in shaping the future of dairy policy in the United States. They aim to ensure that the interests of farmers are well-represented and that sustainable practices are at the forefront of the industry. As dairy farming faces various challenges, including fluctuating milk prices, labor shortages, and environmental regulations, the coalition’s efforts are crucial for promoting a thriving and sustainable dairy sector in the Midwest.
