John Deere (USA) and DeLaval (Sweden) have launched the Milk Sustainability Center, a cloud-based platform aimed at improving sustainability and efficiency in dairy farming. The system integrates crop and animal performance data, helping farmers manage nutrient use, reduce environmental impact, and collaborate with consultants and partners. Initially available in the U.S., Netherlands, and Germany, it will expand across Europe soon.

John Deere, USA, and DeLaval, Sweden, have jointly launched the Milk Sustainability Center, a cloud-based digital platform designed to improve the efficiency and sustainability of dairy farming. The platform integrates data from both crop and animal performance, providing dairy farmers with a unified tool to manage their operations and meet evolving sustainability standards.

With stricter regulations on the horizon, the Milk Sustainability Center offers a solution for farmers by enabling them to monitor nutrient use efficiency (NUE) and carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) across their entire farm, including livestock and fields. The system collects data and provides actionable insights to reduce environmental impact, optimize nutrient management, and cut down on manual data entry.

The initiative, which began in September 2023, allows farmers to invite consultants, veterinarians, and other partners to access the platform, offering a collaborative approach to farm management. According to John Deere’s Production System Manager, Alexander Berges,

“The Milk Sustainability Center is designed to help dairy farmers meet their goals and address the growing demands from dairy processors, retailers, government, and consumers.”

Lars Bergmann, Executive Vice President of Digital Service at DeLaval, noted the significance of integrating multiple unconnected systems into one platform, saying,

“This integration reduces manual data entry and provides farmers with a comprehensive view of their farm’s sustainability. The tool helps identify nutrient losses and offers recommendations to enhance both profitability and sustainability.”

The Milk Sustainability Center is now available in select regions, including the United States, the Netherlands, and Germany. Initially offered in a free version to a limited number of farmers, the platform will gradually expand its user base across Europe. Farmers interested in joining can sign up through the official website.

Developed by Dairy Data Warehouse BV, a Dutch company specializing in sustainable dairy farming solutions, the Milk Sustainability Center supports dairy farmers regardless of the brands of machinery, milking equipment, or herd management software they use.
