Ajinomoto and Danone have formed a partnership to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the dairy industry. Utilizing AjiPro®-L, the collaboration aims to improve cow digestion and lower the carbon footprint.


Food companies Ajinomoto and Danone have announced a new partnership aimed at significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the dairy industry. This collaboration was unveiled on Thursday and is expected to benefit both dairy farmers and the environment.

Jean-Yves Krummenacher, Danone’s chief procurement officer, emphasized the dual impact of this initiative, stating, “With partners like Ajinomoto Co., we are expanding our toolkit of solutions that we are bringing to our dairy farmers. This not only reduces on-farm greenhouse gas emissions but also supports farmers in improving their margins, ultimately enhancing their resilience.”

Ajinomoto, a Japanese multinational known for a diverse range of products from frozen foods to animal nutrition, joins forces with Danone, a French multinational that offers various dairy and non-dairy products, including popular brands like Danone and Oikos yogurts.

The partnership follows an earlier initiative where six of the world’s largest dairy companies, including Danone, formed an alliance to tackle methane emissions at the United Nations COP28 summit.

As part of this new collaboration, Ajinomoto and Danone will utilize Ajinomoto’s product, AjiPro®-L, which is designed to improve cow digestion. According to the companies, this product can reduce nitrous oxide emissions from manure by approximately 25%. When combined with a methane reduction additive, AjiPro®-L can enhance the efficacy of the methane reduction by about 30%.

This partnership represents a significant step forward in the dairy industry’s efforts to address climate change and implement sustainable practices, ultimately aiming to lower its carbon footprint while supporting the livelihoods of dairy farmers.
