Mondelēz International advances sustainability by incorporating recycled plastic into Triscuit Crackers’ packaging, aiming to reduce plastic waste and support eco-friendly practices.
Mondelēz International, a global leader in snacking, has made significant strides in its sustainability journey by incorporating advanced recycling technology into the packaging of its Triscuit Crackers in the U.S. and Canada. Headquartered in Chicago, Mondelēz is known for its iconic brands such as Oreo, Ritz, and Toblerone. This latest initiative reflects the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint, with Triscuit leading the charge in sustainable packaging.
Triscuit Crackers, a brand with over 100 years of history, will now feature packaging that incorporates up to 50% recycled plastic using the ISCC PLUS mass balance approach. This move supports Mondelēz’s broader goal of achieving 5% recycled plastic content by 2025. The outer box for Triscuit already consists of 100% recycled paperboard, and this new effort is expected to divert over one million pounds of plastic waste from landfills each year.
Caitlin Schell, Marketing Director for Triscuit, highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating,
Mondelēz partnered with Berry Global Group, Inc., a renowned global supplier of sustainable packaging solutions, and LyondellBasell, a leader in the production of plastics and chemicals, to bring this innovative packaging to the market. Together, these partnerships further enhance Mondelēz’s focus on sustainable business practices.
In addition to packaging, Triscuit is committed to sustainable agriculture, working closely with American farmers to source wheat responsibly and support conservation efforts. This initiative is part of Mondelēz’s larger goal to make snacks the right way—by focusing on both the ingredients and the packaging.
